U S West to Develop Advanced Data Network
U S WEST will install Cisco networking equipment in over 80 points of presence (POPs) across the U.S. through the end of 1998. Along with this deployment of Cisco switches and dial access systems, the companies will work together to develop other advanced networking services targeting the business market, such as Internet Protocol (IP) telephony, frame relay, and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM).
In collaboration with Intermedia, U S WEST will extend its range of data networking services using Intermedia's 142 data switches and more than 385 network-to-network interfaces (NNIs).
"U S WEST is well positioned to bring the data network and Internet
access customers in its territory to the Intermedia network, taking advantage
of our densely populated US coverage and industry leading service offerings
of Frame Relay, Internet and ViewSPAN," said David C. Ruberg, Intermedia's
chairman, president, and chief executive officer.
